Efficacy of Ten Structurally Related Essential Oil Components on Anti-biofilm and Anti-quorum Sensing against Fish Spoilers Pseudomonas and Aeromonas

چکیده
Biofilm formation causes persistent contamination of spoilage microorganisms, leading to serious economic losses in the aquatic processing industry. The antibacterial and anti-biofilm activity ten carvacrol, cinnamaldehyde, derivatives against two fish spoilers, Pseudomonas fluorescens Aeromonas salmonicida, were evaluated by minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC), crystal violet staining, exopolysaccharide, adhesion, swimming, swarming. Ten essential oils (EOs) tested showed different activity, which carvacrol thymol exhibited lowest MIC. Biofilms exopolysaccharide production repressed all EOs at one-fourth MIC without affecting cell viability, as well as, adhesion. Swimming swarming strains significantly decreased. Carvacrol eugenol exerted best P. (42.2%) A. salmonicida (62.9%), respectively. All components that decrease acyl-homoserine lactone (AHL) quorum sensing (QS) signals positively correlated with based on violacein production. Molecular docking revealed most active EO, competed C4-HSL bind receptor LuxR AsaR its hydroxyl group, resulting repression biofilm formation. These results indicated efficacy antibiofilm for was associated structure compounds, strongest mediated QS strains.

Antifungal and Anti-Biofilm Activity of Essential Oil Active Components against Cryptococcus neoformans and Cryptococcus laurentii
Cryptococcosis is an emerging and recalcitrant systemic infection occurring in immunocompromised patients. This invasive fungal infection is difficult to treat due to the ability of Cryptococcus neoformans and Cryptococcus laurentii to form biofilms resistant to standard antifungal treatment. The toxicity concern of these drugs has stimulated the search for natural therapeutic alternatives. Ess...

Background:Because of the increasing prevalence of fungal infections and antifungal resistance, researchers are seeking new antifungal medications and alternatives. This study aimed to assess the antifungal properties of Myrtus communis L. essential oil and hydroalcoholic extract on Candida species isolated from clinical specimens. Methods: A total of 65 Candida species isolated from clinical ...

Oregano essential oil-pectin edible films as anti-quorum sensing and food antimicrobial agents
Edible films can be used as carriers for antimicrobial compounds to assure food safety and quality; in addition, pathogenesis of food bacteria is related to a cell to cell communication mechanism called quorum sensing (QS). Oregano essential oil (OEO) has proved to be useful as food antimicrobial; however, its food applications can be compromised by the volatile character of its active constitu...
متن کاملAnti-quorum sensing effects of Licochalcone A and Epigallocatechin-3-gallate against Salmonella Typhimurium from poultry sources
Quorum sensing (QS) is a cell density-dependent mechanism used by many pathogenic bacteria for regulating virulence gene expression. Inhibition or interruption of QS by medicinal plant remedies has been suggested as a new strategy for fighting against antibiotic-resistant bacteria. This study aimed to assess the impact of sub-inhibitory concentrations of licochalcone A (LAA) and epigallocatechi...
